Death of August Ames Presents Growing Horrors within the Porn Industry

On Wednesday, one of porn’s biggest names took her own life.

The Ventura County medical examiner declared the death of August Ames as suicide due to asphyxia by hanging.

Ames, 23, received a barricade of online harassment, mostly by those identified as social justice warriors after she tweeted Sunday that she had turned down a job requiring her to shoot sex scenes with a man who had previously performed in gay porn movies.

She said her decision arose from concerns about sexually transmitted diseases, but individuals devoid of reason took it as homophobic slurs. Her initial tweet drew hundreds of responses, many of them criticizing her.

Ames, whose real name is Mercedes Grabowski, responded to the ambush of criticisms:

“NOT homophobic,” she said. “Most girls don’t shoot with guys who have shot gay porn, for safety. That’s just how it is with me. I’m not putting my body at risk.”

Ames had suffered from mental illness in the past having sought clinical treatment for depression and anxiety. Friends said that the attacks likely exacerbated the effects of her depression and drove her to commit suicide.

The story of August Ames should bring to attention the horrors of the porn industry, including the self-esteem issues and short life-expectancy of its stars.

When the death ages of these porn stars were averaged it was discovered that the average life expectancy of a porn star is only 37.43 years whereas the average life expectancy of an American is 78.1 years.

A number of causes for these premature death include suicide, AIDS and other diseases, murder, alcohol dependency, accidental death and drug related overdoses.

Porn also leads to the objectification and commodification of women which leaves its viewers into a pit of darkness. The images and actions on screen promote penetration which liquefies the male’s brain to stimulate their perception of women as needing to be abused, asking for sex, or vulnerable to be raped. This projects a sinister complex among the mind of both men and women teaching one gender to be dominant and the other to be submissive. The final effect hardens the heart of its victims and desensitizes them to experiencing real spiritual and humanistic connections.

The counter culture tour-de-force of the late 60’s and 70’s brought the Adult Entertainment industry to new heights and has ever since broken barriers towards the censorship of women on screen while augmenting the faux defense of criticism against it as the ‘liberation of women’ or the ‘women’s choice for her body.’ Ironically, a fourth wave feminist movement that continually expresses support for women as sex workers attack the very same women they claim to protect.

Given the high profile of August Ames within the industry, her death might be a symbolic plea for other women in the industry to get out and realise the evil nature behind the sex industry and the victim’s its claimed.

Ames also detailed her experience with sexual molestation in the past and it is being reported she left behind a suicide note for her parents.
