Military Plane Goes Down. 16 Servicemen Confirmed Dead.
16 service members are dead following a severe crash of a military plan across Leflore County in Mississippi on Monday.
The plane disappeared from the air traffic control radar shortly before crashing as it orginally took off from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., according to the Marine Forces Reserve.
The incident is under investigation as the cause of the crash still remains unknown. The names of the victims are not being disclosed so that family members may be notified ahead of time in privacy.
Witness accounts said there were bodies found more than a mile from the crash. The preliminary findings also believes the crash may have exploded arbitrarily in mid-air.
Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), who is the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel, issued the following statement in regards to the crash:
“Susan and I send our deepest condolences to the families of the Marines who lost their lives in service to our nation. Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and the Havelock community are in our thoughts and prayers. This is a tragic reminder of the dangers our servicemembers are confronted with on a daily basis, including the training missions that are needed to help keep our nation safe at home and abroad.”
President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President Mike Pence all offered their condolences to the family members of the victims of the crash.
