Luna Park to Celebrate Cyclone’s 90th Birthday in Coney Island
Luna Park, New York City’s largest amusement park, will host the biggest block party of the year to celebrate the Cyclone’s 90th Birthday on Sunday, June 25 at its location Coney Island.
Grammy-nominated platinum recording artist “Fabolous” will headline the event.
The Harlem Globetrotters will also headline the event, who have recently likewise, celebrated their 90th Birthday. The Globetrotters will twice perform, afterwards signing autographs and taking photos with fans,
The celebration will also feature several brand activations from companies such as Pepsi, Coney Island Brewery, and The New York Cosmos.
Luna Park fully refurbished the Coney Island Cyclone in 2016, 28 years after it was named a New York City Landmark, and 25 years after it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The roller coaster has 2,640 feet of track featuring 12 drops and 27 elevation changes, including an 85-foot, 60-degree plunge at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
The historic coaster has provided rides for almost one million riders from around the world since 1927.
The Cyclone has also been featured in movies, television shows, books and other forms of American culture.
“The Cyclone is an integral part of the Luna Park experience, and it is also a piece of New York history,” said Valerio Ferrari, president of Central Amusement International and Zamperla USA. “We look forward to welcoming families, visitors and amusement enthusiasts to celebrate with us as we mark this very special milestone.”
On Monday, June 26 at 11 a.m., local stakeholders and elected officials will gather in front of the Cyclone at Luna Park to host an official speaking program and formal birthday ceremony for The Cyclone, which will include 90-cent Cyclone rides for 90 minutes from noon to 1:30pm.
