Michael Moore Launches TrumpiLeaks
Democratic activist and filmmaker Michael Moore has launched his own version of Wikileaks, but with the mission to find information on President Trump. Moore launched Trumpileaks as part of his website that allows people to securely send files⏤videos, audio clips, photos and documents⏤directly to him.
Moore posted a letter on his personal website asking for people who know of “crimes, breaches of public trust and misconduct committed by Donald J. Trump and his associates” to step forward. He blasts Trump and warns possible leakers that leaking might be dangerous and it might get them in legal trouble, but he says it is their patriotic duty. Moore praises past whistleblowers like Edward Snowden and encourages readers to follow in their footsteps.
“Patriotic Americans in government, law enforcement or the private sector with knowledge of crimes, breaches of public trust and misconduct committed by Donald J. Trump and his associates are needed to blow the whistle in the name of protecting the United States of America from tyranny,” Moore wrote.
The website’s launch comes as Moore works on a new documentary focusing on Trump and his election. The film, titled Fahrenheit 11/9 aims to discredit Trump’s presidency. It is scheduled for release in August.
Moore’s launch of Trumpileaks arrives as the Department of Justice has charged 25-year-old contractor Reality Leigh Winner for leaking a National Security Agency report on Russian election hacking to liberal news site The Intercept. Winner has been politically active against Trump for some time.
It’s unclear how many people will actually provide information to Moore’s website. He promises that his security is top-notch and will not reveal the names of those who provide incriminating information. People may feel more comfortable releasing information to WikiLeaks because of their track record of protecting whistle-blowers.
