Donald Trump Fighting To Find White House Leakers
President Trump has vowed to find and punish officials who are leaking information about his presidency. Trump’s announcement comes after the House Intelligence Committee said they are investigating the sources behind the story that led to General Michael Flynn resigning.
Flynn issued his resignation after White House aides decided that Mr. Flynn misled Vice President Pence about the conversation he had with the Russian ambassador to the United States. Anonymous sources pointed to phone intercepts, that went against what Flynn had claimed. It was later proven that Flynn discussed sanctions on Russia that President Obama imposed on Russia for interfering in the 2016 election.
The government has been monitoring telephone calls of foreign countries for a long time, but was a secret until NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed the NSA monitored phone calls of foreign leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Trump took to Twitter and attacked the New York Times for their reporting of the Trump administration. Congressional Democrats have said there should be an investigation into Flynn and the Trump’s administration’s connection to Russia. Republicans have also called for an investigation into the leaks. Trump kept his focus on the leaks and not on Flynn’s resignation.
“The real story here is why are there so many illegal leaks coming out of Washington? Will these leaks be happening as I deal on N.Korea etc?” he tweeted.
Lawmakers criticized the White House for knowing about Flynn’s actions weeks ago but refusing to take action. Rep. Adam Schiff wants to determine how the White House responded to the news about Flynn’s actions.
President Trump has previously targeted leakers, after a dossier contained damning information was reported on widely. “Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to “leak” into the public,” Trump tweeted. “One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?” Continue reading at Western Free Press
