Chicago PD arrest four involved in kidnapping and torture of Trump supporter
A woman live streamed her assault and beating of a Trump supporter on Facebook live
Chicago law enforcement arrested four people involved in the gruesome beating of a white man. A woman broadcasted the beating on Facebook live. The man was tied up and his mouth covered.
Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced that four individuals are in custody but no charges have been filed. The victim was described of having “mental health challenges.”
The attackers hurled slurs at him as they assaulted him and even cut his forehead with a knife. Police believe the man had been missing for 48 hours and was severely traumatized when they found him. Police Commander Kevin Duffin confirmed that the victim knew one of his attackers and went to school with him. Police are still hesitant to call it a hate crime but Commander Kevin Duffin said police may file kidnapping charges.
“Although they are adults, they’re 18. Kids make stupid decisions — I shouldn’t call them kids, they’re legally adults, but they’re young adults and they make stupid decisions,” Duffin said. “That certainly will be part of whether or not… we seek a hate crime, to determine whether or not this is sincere or just stupid ranting and raving.”
The video which gained a larger audience after it was posted on YouTube, lasts 30 minutes. During the live Facebook stream, she responded to real-time comments from viewers. Facebook has taken down because it violates the social media giant’s community standards. The video was quickly spread around on social media, and #BLMKidnapping was trending on Twitter by Wednesday night.
This is not the first time a Facebook Live video has made the news in Chicago. Previously two men were shot while streaming live video on Facebook. One was killed and the other was seriously wounded. The Chicago Police Department said the four people in custody are expected to be charged in the coming days.
