Prosecution rests in ‘American Sniper’ trial
On Tuesday, the prosecution in the murder case of Chris Kyle has finished calling their witnesses in the capital murder trial of former Marine Eddie Ray Routh, who is charged in the murder of Kyle. Over several days of witnesses’ testimony, prosecutors reconstructed the day two years ago when they say Routh, 27, killed Kyle and Kyle’s friend Chad Littlefield at a gun range about 70 miles (110 km) southwest of Fort Worth, stole Kyle’s pickup truck and was taken into custody following a high-speed car chase.
Prior to finishing with their witnesses, they played a taped phone call between Routh and a New Yorker magazine reporter according to a Dallas news report. In the interview, Routh details the events surrounding the murders of Kyle and Littlefield in 2013. Lawyers for Routh have not denied Routh fired the fatal shots but contend that he was psychotic and not aware of what he was doing. Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Routh who previously served with the Marines in Iraq and Haiti.
