World delegates begin annual World Economic Forum

Several thousand of the world’s powerful descended on Davos for the annual World Economic Forum. Wednesday marked the beginning of the 2015 World Economic Forum, they are expected to discuss inequality, climate change and sustainable development during the meeting. A wide-range of guests are expected to attend the event, including former US vice-president Al Gore who is set to stress the importance of tackling climate change, and pop star Pharrell Williams who will discuss how to make fabric from recycled plastic. Top world executives have become less optimistic about the world economy. A survey revealed during the opening of the World Economic Forum revealed that 17% of corporate CEOs believe global economic growth will decline in 2015; that number rose from 7% last year. The survey marked the US as the most important market for growth for 2015. The American economy grew 5% in the third quarter, exceeding expectations and surging at a time when growth in Europe has been far more modest and economies here have been plagued by the threat of deflation or falling prices.
