Mike Huckabee leaves Fox family, signaling possible 2016 bid
Former Fox News political commentator Mike Huckabee gave his farewell to his Fox News audience Saturday night, as he begins to seriously consider a presidential run in 2016. By ending his program now, Huckabee avoids any potential conflicts between his political ambitions and TV work. Fox News has a history of terminating the contracts of contributors with White House ambitions, including those of Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum as they geared up for their presidential campaigns.
Huckabee originally made the announcement on his Facebook page earlier Satuday, commenting he was leaving Fox News and his show so he can “openly talk with potential donors and supporters and gauge support.” According to Fox News, Huckabee’s departure was amicable. Huckabee joined Fox News in 2008, months after his first presidential campaign ended.
