In a mere seconds, Sydney police end ‘Sydney Siege’
After sixteen hours, Sydney authorities ended the hostage situation at the Sydney café. A video was shown early Monday morning of gunfire erupting as police began to throw flash-bang grenades into the café. According to local news outlets, one hostage was shot and two others were given CPR. The incident began at 9:45 a.m. Australia time. Three hostages were able to escape six hours into the hostage crisis.
Earlier in the day, the gunman issued demands and claimed to have placed bombs around the city. The gunman recently identified as Man Haron Monis. Monis released videos through the hostages calling for an ISIS flag and a phone call from Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. Throughout the day heavily armed police took control of the streets around the Lindt Chocolate Café; authorities took sniper positions around the café. Monis was an Iranian-born spiritual healer with a lengthy criminal record who was recently released on bail. Several people were taken away on stretchers as police moved into the shop. Authorities sent a bomb disposal robot into the shop.
Local media on Monday, released images showing people holding a black flag with Arabic writing on it, which read “There is no God but God and Mohammed is the prophet of God.” Read More…
